Know "conjunctivitis"

Conjunctivitis or better known as red eye disease, is inflammation and infection of the conjunctiva transmitted (ie clear membrane covering the white part of the eye and the inner surface of the eyelid). Conjunctivitis is called the "red-eye disease" because of the white part of the eyes turn red or pink. This disease can affect anyone and is very contagious. In certain seasons, it happens quite a lot and spread, especially among school-aged children.

Disease conjunctivitis can be caused by viruses or bacteria. Conjunctivitis caused by bacteria and viruses as well as infectious, known as infectious conjunctivitis. Conjunctivitis can also be caused by allergies or the entry of foreign objects into the eyes which cause eye irritation. This type of conjunctivitis is not contagious. Some types of conjunctivitis can be cured by itself, but there is also a need treatment.

Accompanying symptoms Conjunctivitis

Conjunctivitis is usually preceded by the appearance of symptoms as follows:

1. The eyes become red, itchy and swollen.
2. Sticky fluid out of the eye which can be white, clear, green or yellow. It is possible only left eye are affected by conjunctivitis and next to it is not. However, usually the infected eye.
3. Conjunctivitis usually do not make eye sore, but the eyes become very itchy. It feels a bit like no eyelashes or small particles entering the eye (does not add up), where it is very disturbing.
4. Generally there is no decrease in visual acuity.

Do not underestimate the Red Eye

Red eye or conjunctivitis diseases caused by viruses, including the self-limiting disease or disease that can be cured by itself. The infection lasts for approximately one to two weeks and usually will improve. However, patients should immediately go to the doctor if the itching is very annoying.

If the eye disease caused by bacterial infection, the doctor will prescribe antibiotics in the form of ointment or eye drops. Usually if an infant will be given an ointment, whereas children and adults are given eye drops. If conjunctivitis is caused by a virus, antibiotics cannot cure it. If the eye disease caused by allergies or a foreign object, the doctor will recommend the use of special eye drops to relieve allergy symptoms.

Red eyes severe disease and left alone without proper treatment can lead to complications such as keratinize, or inflammation of the cornea. If this happens, treatment becomes more difficult and longer.

How Conjunctivitis Treatment?

• Children who suffer from conjunctivitis should get plenty of rest and do not move out of the house.
• Splash warm water to relieve itching.
• Compress the eyes with cold water or ice cubes to reduce the swelling of the eye.
• Parents can clean the eyes carefully with a cloth or cotton wool and warm water to clean the dirt that formed at the end of the eye.
• If the cause is bacterial, use eye drops or ointment antibiotic as prescribed. Clean hands before shed eye drops or ointments to the child's eyes so as not to aggravate the irritation.
• Prevent Infection in People Around
• Towel and washcloth that has been used should be immediately washed so that the infection does not spread to other family members.
• Frequent hand washing with warm water and soap or disinfectant.
• Avoid direct contact with patients, let alone touch or use of personal items belonging to the patient. However, just looking into the eyes or chat does not transmit conjunctivitis.
• Do not use eye drops or ointments together.
