Know parotitis or mumps
Mumps is a disease caused by a highly contagious viral
infection. Paramyxovirus virus attacks the salivary glands (parotid) between
the ear and jaw, causing swelling of the neck top or bottom cheeks. The disease
is often experienced by children aged 2-12 years.
The spread of the virus can occur through direct contact and
droplet. Therefore, I wonder if its spread very quickly occurs in a particular
area. Densely populated residential, schools, boarding schools, dormitories,
and daycare is the most susceptible to the spread of mumps.
Not Just Cheek Swelling
In the early stages, patients experiencing symptoms of fever
(1-2 days), headache, muscle aches, loss of appetite, pain in the back of the
jaw when chewing and sometimes accompanied by a stiff jaw (difficulty opening
the mouth). Further swelling below the ear (parotid) that begins with swelling
one side and then the two glands swollen glands. Glands under the chin could
also be bigger and bloated.
The swelling usually occurs about 3 days and then gradually
deflate. These symptoms vary widely and are not always fully experienced by the
patient.
How Mumps Treatment?
Mumps disease, including diseases that can heal itself
without treatment. Mumps is caused by a virus that does not require antibiotics
in treatment. Mumps patients only require adequate rest and nutrition
nutritious to increase endurance. If necessary, be given febrifuge and
anti-pain, depending on the symptoms. Patients should avoid acidic foods so as
